Opti Spring Practice Series #1

OPTI PRACTICE SERIES

What & Who: A Saturday practice series for Intermediate Opti Graduates up to First-Year RWB sailors and everyone in between! Parents are welcome to spectate/chaperone on the water in their own powerboats. Any parents interested in helping to coach an event can reach out to Trevor directly. All parents/guardians/volunteers must submit their SafeSport Certification to SSA prior to their first event if they plan to be directly involved.

Each week, Coach Trevor will email you with the daily curriculum. 

Saturday curriculum and topics will include:

- Rigging your boat

- Body position in the boat

- Sailing upwind

- Tacking & Gybing

- Race courses and mark roundings

- Sailing/Racing terms

- Basic Racing Rules of Sailing

The last day of the Opti Series (May 25) will be a mini regatta with all registered sailors invited!

When: This series will be held on Saturday's from April 6th until May 25th. Each Saturday will be weather dependent but generally will be held between 12-4. Occasionally there will be opportunities to arrive earlier to participate in a focused practice session.

Cost: The price for a Season Pass is $100. For storage options, see below. If you purchase a season pass, you only need to pay the fee on the first day you sign up. Every other day that you choose to sign up for, you will choose "Returning Season Pass Sailor" and you will not have to pay the fee again. If you choose to join us for one or two days, you may choose to purchase a Single Day Drop-In Ticket for $30/day. For both season pass sailors and drop-in's, you must individually register for every date that you plan to attend. 

Opti Charters are very limited and cost $27/day. If you wish to charter an Opti, please let us know so we can reserve one for you. Please note, Opti Practice Series registrations do not roll over from previous years or seasons.

How to Register: Check out our events calendar and click on any "Opti Spring Practice Series" event - the first one is April 6th. In order to confirm the coach each week, participants must register for each date no later than the Thursday before the event. If it is your first time registering for the series, you must purchase a Season Pass or a Single Day Drop-In Ticket at checkout. If you have already participated in the series and have purchased a Season Pass, you may choose "Returning Season Pass Sailor".

What does my sailor need to bring (aside from their boat/sails/spars/etc.)? All the items you would normally need to bring to sailing (lifejacket, optional helmet, bailer, sunblock, etc.), plus some warmer gear for the first few weeks. A drysuit will be required if the water/air combined temp is <110 degrees. A wetsuit is a good idea for spring sailing, as well as sailing gloves, a good hat, and a nice pair of neoprene booties.

Normal storage fees are $45/month but we are offering a special rate for the Spring Practice Series!

2 months (Full Season): $60 for season pass holders!

Terms: Arrive on April 6th. Boat must be off property by May 31st. $100/week storage fee will apply to any boats left on property beginning June 1st. Monthly rates or continuing Opti storage through the summer can be arranged by emailing office@severnsailing.org
